My Tree of Life

This is my tree of life. We learnt that in 1835, Charles Darwin discovered a number of animals, and made a theory that all animals are connected, or were connected millions of years ago. The animals that evolved had a better chance of surviving. At the bottom of the tree, there are the things that every animal evolved from.

Shaping Up

Walt: Justify our math's thinking using 'so' and 'because'

Task Description
Hi, my name is Caleb, and welcome to this post. In this task, I do work on Perimeter's and Area's.

Something in the Water!

On Monday, the whole school went to Immersion Assembly. Immersion Assembly is a Assembly we have in the hall at the start of each term. And finally, after the 2 week holiday we had, we had to go to Immersion Assembly.

After we had our team meeting, which we have everyday before we go to class or assembly, we got into our lines, and headed for the hall. I was excited about this term, because I didn't know what the theme for this term was. It was term 3, so I had my hopes up about what this term was going to be about. When our class got to the hall, and sat down, Mr Burt, who is our principal, told us that the theme for this term was 'Something in the Water', which means that we will be learning about things in the water.

After talking about what the theme for the term was, he showed us a whole lot of sea food, which were already cooked for us. Then I was excited! He gave some of the food to the prefects, who went around and gave out food. Then, while the prefects were doing there thing, it was time for the team 1 movie. The team 1's movie was about a team called S.O.F.A, who went around and helped endangered creatures. This time, they went to the Pt England Reserve, and tried to help the creatures. Then it was time for team 2, 3, and 4, who all talked about sea creatures.

Then it was time for team 5. Team 5, instead of talking about sea creatures, did a cool song about DNA, and cells, and other things that help our body. Then, after the last of the food was handed out, it was time to go back to class.

Overall, I am really excited for this term. I really hope we learn about sea creatures, as I love animals. I also hope we learn about how big the Ocean is. This term is going to be awesome!

Goodbye Fans 2018

Hey guys, thank you so much for supporting me throughout the year. You guys have all helped so much through the year. This will be my last school post for the year, however, I don't know if it will be my last post for the year, as I don't know if I will be able to post in the summer holidays.

This year, there have been some super exciting things happen through the year. One exciting thing can can still remember doing is making Pokemon cards. I made three of them, and one of the things that I remember about them is that all the kids were seeing which Pokemon was the most powerful. Another highlight was the year 5 & 6 camp, and the year 6 camp. I liked the year 6 camp better because we went to another island I had never been to and did awesome activity's. There are so many other highlights that I can't write down, however, I will put links down below for some of the cool stuff I did this year. See you next year!!!

Ancient Jewellery Makers

Task Description
In this activity, me, Zaeeda, and Amira learnt about ancient jewellery and jewellery tactics. This is out groups extension research for term 4, 2018. This term's topic is Te Wai Toi, which means Art time in Maori. Hope you find this interesting!

Cave Art Animation

Hello my name is Caleb and this is my cave art animation.

Long ago there lived a small tribe. One day while the tribe were siting down and talking, a giant, prehistoric rhino came and attacked their village. One of the tribe members scared the rhino of, however, the rhino killed one of there tribe members. The rest of the tribe chased the rhino until they found a bush. They decided to sit at a bush to rest. However, they didn't know that the rhino was hiding in the bush, and it jumped out and killed another member of the tribe, sending his body flying in the air.

The huge beast chased after one of the members who was running away. The others tried to save them, however, the body of the dead tribe member came down and fell on them, severely injuring them. There was only one tribe member left, and the rhino had cornered him. With one final hope, the member threw his spear, and hit the rhino in the eye just before it got him. The animal then fell down hole, never to be seen again.

Silver Decimal Problems 2

Walt: use add/sub strategies to solve tricky problems

Task Description
In this activity I answer the same questions as the other silver one, except a few of the answers are different. This is easier than the other silver one, but out of all of them (Bronze, Silver, Gold), this has got to be the hardest.

Bronze Decimal Place Value 2

Picking up rubbish recount

Walt: structure a recount

Today everyone in the class sat on the mat without their chromebooks. Even though my teacher Mr Goodwin said to us “we are going out of the school for us to write a recount”, me and most of the other kids were confused. What do you think we were doing?

It started with Mr Goodwin telling us to go outside and wait for him to get outside as well. We then walked to a door on another building, which wasn’t very far. He told us to wait for a minute and we waited, until he came out with black bags. At first I thought we were playing a game where you have to try and stand on the platform and the platform gets smaller and smaller but, as I said, they were actually black bags. We then walked all the way passed the classes, passed the fields and, finally, we got to the gate. I was feeling really cold even though I had a jumper, and the people without jumpers were even colder. We got into groups, and I knew my group was going to win. Finally, Mr Goodwin got out the keys, put the keys in the gate, and opened it.

The race was on and…. wait, I haven’t even said what each group was supposed to do. Every groups objective was to pick up as much rubbish as they could in a certain length of time, and after the timer, we would go to a new area. Every group race out to a certain area which wasn’t past the boundaries and found lots of rubbish, including me, which made me feel proud. Our group, which included, me, Zaeeda, Benjamin, Tha-zin and Marie, found lots of rubbish scattered everywhere, which made my heart pump even faster. After a while, Mr Goodwin blew the whistle and we all came running towards him, laughing like crazy. He brought us to the 2nd spot, which was only a bit farther back. The first spot had a bit of rubbish but not that much, the second spot had a little bit less than the first one but only a bit less, the third one was at our schools bottom field and it had heaps of rubbish and the fourth destination was at our top field, which was double our bottom fields size and had double the rubbish.

Finally, after going to different destinations, picking up heaps of rubbish, and having an amazing time with my friends, me and my group finally had to line up to show another teacher called Mrs Haare, our bags. First she checked one groups bag, then she checked the second groups bag, then our bag, then the next groups bag, then the next one. Finally, she said she new who won. I was really excited because I thought my group could win. “The winning group is…….. this group” Said Mrs Haare as she pointed to the group next to us. Mr Goodwin then told us that the group that won could have ten minutes of cool math games after we had started writing the story that your reading now, but I didn’t care that we lost, do you know why, because I had heaps of fun with my friends instead.

I never thought that picking up rubbish could be fun, but it was. I think that this experience was good not only because we got to help our school community with picking up rubbish, but also because it was really fun. I would definitely recommend this for others because they should help there community like we helped ours. I definitely think our class, our school, and other schools, should try do this because it will make a big difference.

Immersion assembly Term 3 2018

Today was the first day of term three! We all went to our assembly and saw a lot of cool movies and act’s, which were created by all the teachers. Have your school ever had an Immersion Assembly?

The school theme is move ya’ body. I think that move ya’ body means we have to do lots of dancing and exercising, with our teachers. I also think that we are going to be doing lots of running and fitness, so we can be good at cross country which might be at the end of this term. I feel like both these ideas but together make we think that the teachers are trying to make me fit, and all the others so we can be better at being fit!

Team four’s topic is about having fun while being active. For example (creating an active game that you have to move around a lot, but is still fun). I think that the movie was meant to show us what they did wrong so we can do things right. The spoon hockey for example may have being exciting but it isn’t active, which means it doesn’t help you.

I want to learn about what to do to get better at being fit. It will help me a lot with my rugby, and I will be faster or as fast as my rugby friends. I also want to learn a bit more about my health, because i’m not sure all the stuff I eat is good for me. I also want to learn about health because I think it will be more fun and help me heaps!

I think that this term’s theme overall is going to be absolutely amazing. I love dancing a lot and I love running as well, because I need to get better and I also just love running in general. I am most excited about our team 4 game that we will be making later in the term, and I fell like this term is going to be the best one this year!
