My Art

Walt: Create art that represents yourself

Task Description
Hi, my name is Caleb, and welcome to my blog. For extension this term, we had to create an artwork that was special to us and represented something in Aotearoa. For the animal, I chose a seagull as that is our native beach bird. For the Beach/Grass Area, I based it off Saint Heliers Beach, as that is my favourite beach in Auckland. And finally for the mountains, I based them off the beautiful coastlines of our beaches.

My Final Immersion Assembly

On Monday, I went to my final Immersion Assembly, at Pt England School, EVER……

When I came to School for the first time for term 4, I was not looking forward to it. I got class, said hi to my Teachers and Friends, and then got ready for the Assembly. We got to Assembly, and I started talking to my friends. And just before the Assembly started, I realized that I had been made a Prefect! I bolted to the front, got myself organized, and Assembly started.

For Team 1, they drew Portraits of themselves using different styles of art. For Team 2, Ms Gaston drew the other teachers faces using different tools. For Team 3, the teachers sprayed a big piece of something (idk what it is) with water blasters. For Team 4, they had a google meet planning what they were going to do for this term. And for Team 5, they showed us a collection of different artifacts (the teacher). After that, we went back to class, and we started off the term.

Walt: Count up to 100

Task Description
Hi, my name is Caleb, and in this task, I learn about numbers in Maori. This is my first/second actual post back from the holidays, so yeah.

Why Do We Need School?

 Introduction:

Have you ever wondered why school is necessary? In NZ, it is compulsory that kids go to school between the age of 5-16. We need to attend school so we can Learn, get a Job, and Socialize with others.

Body Paragraph 1:

Learning is important so we can grow in our knowledge of the world. At school, we don’t just learn about Reading, Writing and Maths, but also Swimming, P.E., Te Reo Maori, and much more. If we don’t learn, then everything we encounter will be a challenge. For example, if your stuck in a big wave, and you have learnt about this, then you will be able to overcome it. However, if you haven’t learnt what to do, something bad will happen.

Body Paragraph 2:

School is VERY important if you want to get a job in the future. When you go to School, you learn about a variety of subjects, which all can lead to getting a job. An example of this is learning how to cook to become a Chef. School also teaches you everyday life skills like using manners and being on time, which increases your chances of getting your chosen job.

Body Paragraph 3:

At School, our teacher teach us how to socialize with other people. Most of the time at School, you have to do activities with others, which means that you learn how to Co-op anyone you meet. You also are going to have lots of friends, which support you throughout your School and outside School life.

Conclusion:

School is the core of our society. Without it, we cannot live properly. We go to School to Learn, get a Job, and Socialize with others.

Valadir And The Cave of Krohhr

Once, there was a prince named Valadir. He was a charming, good-looking boy, with lots of courage in battle. He had protected the city countless times, and hoped that no great evil would strike while he was there. Oh how wrong he was.

It was a typical Tuesday morning. He got up, had breakfast, and was just about to talk to the king, when he heard a scream. A humongous, fire-breathing dragon, was rampaging through the city, creating havoc.

Soon after, the soldiers and warriors made the dragon retreat. But not before it had caused chaos in the city. People ran, screamed, cried, as they saw what damage had been done. Meanwhile, Valadir was preparing to defeat the dragon. The whole city knew, of the terrifying dragon Krohhr, and how it lived in an enchanted Cave, so without telling anyone, Valadir travelled to the Cave.

After two, exhausting days, he finally made it to the castle, where he found the dragon lurking. He fought the dragon, and they had the greatest battle in history. At last, when the dragon seemed to be winning, Valadir called to the gods, called to the universe, called to the greatest of greats, and before the dragon could do a final blow, he stabbed the dragon, using so much power, that he plunged the dragon the the ground, into the eternal abyss.

Matariki Day

On Friday, we had Matariki Day. On Matariki Day, we choose from a variety of different activities To do all day, then, at the end of the day, we all come together to see all the cool things we did.

When I got to school, I was really excited to see what group I was in. I rushed to class, and found out that I was in Sport, which I was very excited about (as it is the best group, in my opinion). Soon after, we had our Team 5 assembly, and then, we went to assembly.
Assembly was pretty normal. We sang the National Anthem, we had our duffy awards, and we welcomed people to our school. The only things that weren’t normal were the senior Kapa Haka (which was good) and the Choir (which was amazing!). After assembly, we went back to our class, ready for the day ahead.

After I got my stuff ready in my bag, I headed straight for the hall (which was where the sports was). After everyone arrived, the coaches told us that we would be playing a game called Ki-o-rahi. We watched a Maori Legend on it, and then got into our groups.

There were 4 groups, Green, Pink, Yellow, and Purple. Now let me explain how to play Ki-o-rahi. There are 2 groups against each other, and both teams have an objective. Let's start with Kioma. For Kioma, there are 3 areas, the outside, the shooting ground, and the target. If you are in Kioma, your goal (as a team) is to get the ball from the outside area (there are a group of people who can do that), to the shooting area (there can only be a maximum of 4 shooters), where they have to hit the target (which can be like a barrel, or rubbish bin, or something like that), while, there are 2 people from the other team defending it. It sounds hard, but trust me, it isn’t really. Now let's talk about Tawhiri. There goal is to run around the outside, hit the cones on the outside (which gives them 1 point per cone), and run to the middle without getting their tags ripped off (you can play touch, rippa or tackle, and we played rippa). And as I said previously, there are 2 people defending the target in the middle. Right, now lets talk about the games.

As team captain, I decided to play inside first, playing against Green. I also decided to do Kioma first. Then the game began. In Kioma, I played an outsider, and helped my team get the ball to the middle. After 5 minutes, we swapped around. As Tawhiri, I decided to be one of the defenders, and I, along with Ozzy, helped save most of the balls that came our way from the other team. We ended up winning the game by 10 points.
After that, we had our morning tea, and went outside to play for 30 minutes. After that, we then came to the hall, and we were playing inside again against Pink. This team was A LOT harder, and they even beat us in the first half. In the end, however, we ended up winning by 4 points. Then it was us against Purple, and finally, we played outside. It was tough, and It was a WAY different experience, as it was bigger, and more difficult against a good team. Again, I played defence, and I don’t think I did as well, but I still managed to save a good chunk of them. I also played outsider, and, our team did amazing. This was the toughest game yet, and we only JUST won by 2 points. Finally, it was time for the finals. It was us, against purple again, and the pressure was high. After the blow of the whistle, the game, began….

It, was not looking good for our team. They were thrashing us, and, after a good fight being Tawhiri, it ended up being 10-4 to them. When the next half begun, I felt, like our winning streak was about to end. However, as soon as the final whistle blew, our team, went as hard as possible. There was shouting, throwing, hitting, and a epic game. And, after those 5 minutes, we had beat them, and won 15-14. It was an awesome game, and after that, it was time for lunch.

After lunch, we watched the Maori myth again, and then waited for everyone else in the school to come to assembly. And sure enough, after 5 minutes, the school arrived. It was a pretty normal end. We watched a video showcasing all the activities, and then talked about how awesome it was. We then ended by saying that Matariki Is AWESOME! After that, it was time to end, an amazing day of school.

Understand how they used words in the War?

History of the German Words?

How has the language changed as different people have entered their country?

How many types of Germans are there?

Today, Room 2 started Genius Hour, where we have to learn a skill or create something. The thing I have chosen to do is learn German. These are my starter questions.
