Reading with teachers

On monday my class and the year threes went to the hall. We were going to read with teachers. My group pav 3 first went to read with Ms Nua.

She read Why do dogs sniff bottoms about why they sniff not just other dogs bottoms but peoples bottom as well. This book gives you questions like “how do the dogs know what there own bottom smells like? Do dogs sniff bottom in real life to find their own bottom?

Next we went to the headmaster of our school Mr Burt. He read us My hippopotamus a story about a girl who has a imaginary friend that's a hippo. The hippo can do anything he wants and eats cake.

The third teacher we saw was Ms Clark. She read to us The sneetches. The sneetches are Creatures that have half of them with no Stars and the other half of them with star and the ones with stars always say that they're the best until one day a monkey came and switched all of their stars on and off until all of their money was spent up.

The fourth teacher we saw was Ms Garden who read us Edward the emu. The story is about a emu who has heard all the crowd say that other animals are the best and not the emu. Every time he hears the crowd say that another animal is the best he jumps out of the cage and goes to that cage.

After we had been to all 5 teachers we went back to class ready for a good day. I love reading with teacher!

My costume was funky because It was all black like the All Blacks. My costume is strong like a Bear and black like Batman. Jump jam is a very very cool dance.

I felt excited about going on the Stage because I have done a lot of practice and this is the real thing. When I got on the stage I felt scared but I had to do It anyway. After Jump jam I was overjoyed because a lot of people were clapping at me.

Athletics day

3 weeks ago we did athletics. We lined up at class, walked to the court, and sat down in our groups. Finally when everyone was in there lines Mr Burt talked to us about being kind and not cheating and then we went.

The first event we played was shot put. Shot Put is a game where you have to hold a ball next to your neck, take 2 side steps forward, and throw the ball as far as you can. The ball was hard and i tried to get it past the champions but I was put in the practice line because I threw it out.

After we played shot put we moved to tug of war. Tug of war is a game where you have to try pull the rope to your side and stop the other team from doing the same. Our team lost all the rounds we played because on the first round our team lost and also the rope made our hands hurt for a long time.

We did other games like high jump, discus, and much more events. After all the events were done in the first half we went back to the court and sat back in our lines ready to go to morning tea. My favourite event in the first half was discus because it was so fun throwing the discus and seeing how far it went.

After Mr Burt told us that we did good in the first half and that we were all super stars we ran to class and had morning tea. After morning tea we went back in our lines at the court and waited again for Mr Burt to send us of. This time we did some games from youthtown and not events from our school.

One of the games we played was dodgeball. The dodgeball we played was different because when you get hit by the ball you sit down and wait for the person that tagged you to get hit and then stand up and try get everyone else standing up. I did really well at not getting tagged until the end where I was tagged and had to wait until the end to get up again.

My favourite game that youthtown brought us was javelin. Javelin is a game where you have to shoot the stick and try get it further than your opponent. I went up first and did not get it further than my opponent but since i was the first one to throw it in my group I got to go into the champions.

We played so many other games from youthtown. After we played all the games from youthtown we went to the court, waited for Mr Burt to send us of, and then went to get lunch. After lunch we sat on the grass and watch the big kids and teachers race.

It was so fun watching the big people race and even for fun watching my team win. After the race was finished we stood up and went back to class ready to go home. I love athletics day!

Periodic table

The periodic table has boxes with numbers and letters on them. The numbers present the protons. The letters tell us about what all the elements names are.

H means Hydrogen, he means Helium, li means Lithium, be means beryllium. Those are only 4 Elements out of 118 Elements! There is so much you can learn of the periodic table.

Film festival

Last wednesday my entire school went to there Manaiakalani Film Festival. We lined up at our class and walked nicely to the bus. When we reached the bus we hopped on with excitement and sat down waiting for the bus to go.

When the bus went I thought of what our movie would be like and asked myself “what will our movies be like”? Finally we got to sylvia park and hopped off the bus. We walked to our Manaiakalani Film Festival and sat down with our friends.

Sitting with my friends I waited anxiously for the movies to start. When the movies began I listened to what the presenters said for their movies and then watched their movies. Every movie was great and the acting was awesome.

When all the movies had finished we walked to the buses and thought of all the cool movies there had been. When we got back to class one of our teachers told us to do blog comments on the Manaiakalani movies until it was morning tea time. I love Manaiakalani Film Festival.

My favourite movie was the bmg short for big manaiakalani giant, the bmg has grey hair, wears a cape, he gives kids dreams and gives nightmares to bad people, he wears brown and white clothes. I love the movie because there is a movie called the bfg a real movie about a big friendly giant. I also like it because someone drew a really good picture of what the bfg really looks like.

Our class had 3 movies because we had 3 teachers and each teacher did a movie. One of our movies was called the family where our class was waving at each other like a family. Our second movie was called go for gold.

Go for gold is about trying your best and never giving up even when it seems impossible. Our final movie was similar to the second movie except there was more running and way more falling. My favourite movie out of the 3 movies our class was go for gold because it made me feel like playing in my old rugby team.

Sid and cowzilla

Once there was a kid named Sid. Every day at school a clan of bullies called the blood bullies use to throw stuff at sid and say “hi sid the dirty squid”. One day at school Sid was walking to class when the blood bullies started shouting “hi sid the dirty squid”.

Sid got so angry at the blood bullies he punched one of the bullies in the head knocking him out making the other bullies running away. Sid carried on his walk to class and when everyone saw Sid they all started chasing Sid terrifying Sid and making Sid run out of school running home and shutting the door behind him. When his mother saw Sid she said “what are you doing home so early sweety”.

“Sorry mum everyone was chasing me” said Sid while he was running upstairs to his room. When he got upstairs he thought of something that would stop the blood bullies from bullying everyone. He spent 8 months inventing something that he thought would stop the blood bullies from bullying everyone.

After he finished he said “my invention will stop those bad bullies once and for all”. He ran down stairs hoped on his invention and ran to school trying to find the bullies. When he found the bullies he said “hey stupid heads come and get me”.

The bullies said “what is that” Sid said “this is just my invention called cowzilla”. Sid told cowzilla to charge at the bullies while the bullies started running away. After 10 minutes of chase the bullies the bullies promised that they would never ever bully anyone again and if they did they would get eaten by cowzilla.

The bush

One day 3 people were in the Bush looking at the animals and recording them with a camera. While they were recording a flock of Rainbow lorikeets out from the Bush came a Bear roaring at the 3 men and stomping his foot. The man with the the camera was ran away from his friends and the footpath while the other two kept on running straight ahead along the path.

The man with the camera which was called Eric kept on running until he came to a lake which had Dears, Kiwis, and even Moose,. The other two men which were called Tarkin and John came to a waterfall were John fell in and Tarkin ran around the waterfall where he lost the bear but also lost himself. Eric got his camera out and recorded all the animals happily living in the Bush even if the Bush was a scary place to be.

When John hit the water he swam to land thinking about getting home and not going into Bush. Tarkin kept on running seeing a bunch of moose running behind him. Eric was happy that he was videoing the animals until the wind started blowing so hard that all the trees started fall and all the animals started running away leaving Eric behind until Eric hopped onto a dear making the dear go so fast that him and the deer ran straight into Tarkin make the moose crash into the waterfall with a Moose, Tarkin, a Deer, and Eric.

John was surprised when he heard a splash noise in the lake wondering what it was. When Eric, Tarkin, a Deer, and a Moose, swam to land John was happy to see them and worried about how they could get home. Eric said “this Moose and this Deer could help us escape”. They hoped on the Moose and Deer and rode of into the direction of the way out of the Bush.

When they got out the Bush they ran to the zoo bringing the Deer and Moose hoping that they could add 2 more animals in the cage. The zookeeper said yes and got them ready to go in a new built cage. The 3 men were happy watching their animals walk in their new home happy that they were out of the bush and not in the wild.

Ginger beer Fermentation

On tuesday we opened my teams ginger beer. When me and Harlyn opened our bottle the ginger beer jumped out and spreaded all over the floor and went on me. All the teams bottles went on the floor and Harlyn did not get wet because he jumped out of the way just in time.

We then got our cups and started to drink our drink. Our one tasted disgusting when my friend called Freedom tasted it and his group thought it was yum. When i went home that day all i could think about is the explosion.

A tuatara is a animal who have lived for about 80 million years. They eat squirrels, insects, beetles, spiders, birds, eggs, frogs, and small reptiles and mammals. They are reptiles not lizards. They live in new zealand. New zealand is the only place you will find them in the wild. If you get to close to a Tuatara it might bite you and may not let go for a very long time. Tuataras are nocturnal. Their closest relatives are dinosaurs. They can live up to 100 years. Tuataras, unlike lizards, like cold weather.

Olympic day

On Thursday we had Olympic days. We went in two lines while we walked towards our group. My group was Figi a so i tried to find year 1-4 Figi a. When everyone got in there teams our principal Mr Burt sent our groups with a teacher so they can look after us.

First we did the throw the shoe game where we have to throw the shoe into one of the 2 hops. The first hop gives you 1 point and the middle hop gives you 2 points. After we had finished my group had got 82 points and our team got just under 400 point and lost but it was close.

We then moved onto the obstacle course where you have to do stuff like crawl under stuff, jump over things. I race someone called Kennedy and he is a fast runner. He beat me the first round but when we raced again i beat him because he tripped over at the start of the race which let me run past him and beat him.

We did other stuff like kick the ball as far as you can, and then it was morning tea. We all went back to the court and waited for Mr Burt to tell us when we can go back to class and eat our food. When we got back to class we ate our food and then had play time.

After play time we all went back and sat in our team lines and waited for Mr Burt to send us off again. We followed our teacher to the next activity which was rop the nest where you have to get as many balls from the middle and when all the balls from the middle are gone you have to steal the balls from the other teams. My team took as many balls from the other team as we could and won.

We moved on to the last thing we did and that was football. There were the year 1-2s playing against each other and the year 3-4s playing against each other. I kicked the ball over the goalkeeper's head twice and football was fun even though we lost.

After football we went to the court and waited until Mr Burt told us to do one more thing. He told us to walk on the grass, hold the plate in front of us, and wait until Mr Burt told us to stand up and keep the plate on our heads until Mr Burt said put the plate down. Then it was morning tea and Mr Burt sent us all of.

I love Olympic day!

Once there was a boy named Liam and he loved dreaming. He loved dreaming about penguins, elephants, it was the best thing for him. One night he ran into his bedroom, turned of the light, and walked into bed to fall asleep.

When he woke up he was in a lion's cage with 4 lions in it. Liam was petrified until a kid put down a rope and Liam climbed up it. When Liam got to the top Liam asked the kid “who are you and where are your parents”.

The kid said “I am Christopher and my parents are at home waiting for me to come back if you want you can come with me”. Liam said “ok” and they both went to Christopher’s home. When they got to Christopher’s home they took their shoes off and went inside.

When they got home Christopher’s dad asked “who is this boy”. Christopher said “this is Liam and i saved him from a lion’s cage”. Christopher’s dad said “i am Charlie and this is my wife Bella can i talk to you Liam”.

Liam said “yes” and Charlie and Liam walked upstairs. When they got upstairs Charlie asked Liam “how did you get in a lion’s cage?” Liam said “i do not know one moment i was home and the next moment i was i a lions cage”.

Liam asked “you please help me i don't know where i am i have lost my parents do you guys have anything that could get me home”. Charlie said “well we do have 4 flying brooms in case someone's in trouble like you”. Charlie said “let's get Christopher and let Bella stay and look after the house while we go flying”.

Charlie got Christopher and Liam, Charlie, Christopher, got the brooms and flew of. While they were flying some other people that were on brooms started shooting guns at them. “Who are these guys” Liam asked “these guys are world's best broom shooters they have won 52 badges without losing 1 match they will probably kill us all unless we grab our safety bow and shoot them before they shoot us”.

Charlie, Liam, and Christopher got out there bows and started shooting them. Liam told Charlie and Christopher to distract them while Liam flanked them. Charlie and Christopher said “yes” and Charlie flanked them and shoot them down. When Charlie, Christopher, and Liam, were just about to continue their journey the leader of the world's best broom riders showed up and shoot the back of Liam’s broom and he fell down.

When Charlie, Christopher, and Liam, were just about to continue their journey the leader of the world's best broom riders showed up and shoot the back of Liam’s broom and he fell down. Charlie and Christopher shoot the best broom rider and then went to save Liam before he hit the ground. Liam just about hit the ground when he woke up back home with a gasp.

“It was just a dream” he said while he got up to tell his parents his dream.

Madman and the zombie

Once there was a Scientist named Madman. One day Madman wanted to make big soft zombie toys for people so they can pretend to fight real zombies. Madman got rotten juice, oil, and 5 rotten bananas.

When he put all of the ingredients in a test tube, he stood back to watched the ingredients mix up but the creation did not work and the creation turn into real zombies. Madman ran away more scared than ever wondering ‘why did my invention not work’? When all the People saw the zombie they started screaming, and running, while Madman ran to the shops to get 10 big pieces of meat.

The pieces of meat were 21.00 dollars and Madman had 505.00 dollars. After Madman got the meat he ran straight to the zoo. When Madman got to the zoo he ran to the lion cage and jumped in.

The lions saw Madman they went to go and eat Madman until he threw a piece of meat behind the lions and the lion went to go get the piece of meat. While the lions were distracted Madman jumped on the back of a lion and put a piece of meat in front of it which made the lion go wherever Madman wants him to go. He pulled the lion towards the zombies and the lion ran to the zombies.

When the lion got there Madman made the lion go towards the zombies and defeat them.
The lion ran to the zombies and hit them with the lion's body. After all the zombies were defeated Madman said ‘i think i will call you meat eater’.

Madman and his lion were happy that they defeated the zombies.

Usain Bolt winning the gold medal

When Usain Bolt won the gold medal he felt thankful because of how lucky he was winning and getting a medal. He also felt successful because of how close the other opponents where to finishing. He felt proud as well because If I just won a medal I'd feel proud.

Ben Johnson cheating

In the Seoul Olympics the men were racing in the finals of the 100m sprints. There were two men who everyone had their eyes on, Ben Johnson and Carl lewis. The crowd shouted ‘go Ben Johnson!’ or ‘go Carl Lewis!’

The race was between Ben Johnson and Carl Lewis. Ben Johnson was ahead of all his competitor including Carl Lewis. Finally Ben Johnson won and got a new world record.

About 3 hours later they realised that Ben Johnson had drugs. They tested his wee twice and found drugs in both of his test.  They showed and proved all the crowd and Ben Johnson the proof that he had drugs.

Ben Johnson's world record was gone again. He knew he was going to get very punished, and he was. He got banned from sprinting and had to fly back home.

Ben Johnson got his gold and shiny medal taken off him and it went to Carl Lewis. Now Carl Lewis is the champion in the finals of the 100m sprint. Ben Johnson will never be seen in the sprint ever again.

pierre de coubertin

After a gap of hundreds of the years the Olympics returned to Athens in 1896. The reason behind the recreation of the Olympics was because of one man Pierre de Coubertin. Pierre admired the Greeks ideals of fitness and sporting competitiveness amongst different communities and he hoped that the modern Olympics would bring countries closer together.

1896 Olympics

The Olympics of 1896 in Athens in Greece had fourteen countries taking part with most of the athletes from Greece. This first modern Olympics was the largest meeting of international competitors that had ever occurred. The next Olympics held in Paris for years later was the first to allow women competitors this time the Olympics where part of a much bigger event and lasted several months.

The Persians and Greeks used fencing for practicing sword fighting. They did fencing to not hurt anyone but still practice fighting with swords. Fencing is like using a sword that bends lots.

Today at the Modern Olympics there is a buzz noise for when to start and when the match has finished and in the old Olympics there were no buzzing noises. In the old days they had to do it outside and in these days they do it inside places. In the olden days the swords were heavy and In the modern days they’re lighter.
Competing in fencing people use different swords for different types of fencing. Epee Is the sword that you can hit your opponent anywhere on the body. Saber Is the sword that you can hit your opponent above the belt. Foil is the sword that you can only hit your opponent on the chest.

The Greeks were exhausted as the battle came to the end. After the Greeks won against the Persian army Pheidippides was sent to send a message to the People of Athens saying they won against the Persian army. Before Pheidippides left his General wished Phidippides good luck then Pheidippides ran off like a cheetah.

Never giving up Pheidippides ran taking no water. Pheidippides went over rocky mountain that were very high and very steep. After 9 hours of running Pheidippides saw Athens off in the distance, he gasped and ran towards it.

Arriving at Athens Pheidippides told the people the message.  “Joy! we won!” shouted Pheidippides as he died. Now every time they run they will remembers Pheidippides by calling the race the Marathon.

The Olympic flame

The ancient greeks started the tradition of having an Olympic flame. In Olympia a sacred flame is lit by the sun's rays and stays alight until the games have ended. The flame symbolized a request for protection from Zeus and the athletes’ struggles for victory.

The modern flame symbolizes the light of the spirit, knowledge and life. To this day, the torch is still lit in Olympia in Greece, then carried by a relay team, passing runner to runner, until it reaches the host-city of the games. There, the cauldron will be lit and stay alight until the closing ceremony.

Ancient Olympic Games

The Olympics began over two and a half thousand years ago In ancient Greece. In those days Greece whose made up of several different states Including Athens, Sparta and Corinth and they were often at war with each other but when the games were on they held a truce. This great event was held at a place called Olympia and this Is why the games are called the Olympics.
They were held once every four years In honor of Zeus lord of all the Gods. Eventually the ancient Olympics were abolished by the Roman Emperor Theodosius the first who was a Christian who didn't like the games because they were dedicated to a pagan God. But the Olympics were always remembered as a symbol of human achievement and peace.

Tower of pisa

Along time ago there lived a taniwha that at night ate anyone that was sailing their boat. At that time there was a boy named Tamarereti who had a very rumbling belly. He decided he would go out in Lake Taupo at night to catch some fish for his belly.

When he was out he caught 3 fish and then fell asleep in his waka. When he woke up in his waka he realized he was on the other side of Lake Taupo. He went on the grass and started to cook his fish.

While he was cooking his fish he realized some glistening pebbles on the beach. He got as many glistening pebbles as he could and put them in his waka and drifted away. While he was drift home in his waka he decided to throw the pebbles in the sky and kept drifting home in his waka.

When He got home he fell fast asleep. When he woke up he saw Ranginui looking at him and thought he was in trouble. Ranginui actually said thank you for put light in the sky it keeps the taniwha away from the sailors at night.

Ranginui said i will put your waka in the sky so the people will remember you.

Colour Poem

Yellow feels like soft bread at morning
Yellow looks like the bright sun in the afternoon
Yellow tastes like a big big banana
Yellow sounds like a t-rex roaring
Yellow smells like a juicy orange

Yellow is the bright earth
Blue sounds like thunder and lightning
Blue feels like a camel's fur
Blue tastes like a big bunch of blueberry
Blue looks like wet clowns
Blue smells like blueberry muffins
Blue is the god of the sea

walking away from home

Looking for a new home the broken house slowly moves away from his haunted and frightening street. He is moving because he doesn't want to be smashed like the other houses. Slowly he walks away from the broken and creepy houses.

Along the lonely road a broken down house slowly walked away from his horrible street. he loved his home but then somehow he didn't. He thought and thought then he decided he should leave.

Broken down houses sit on the messy grass smashed, broken and knocked down.the broken house didn’t want to be like the other houses so he left. He said good bye to his home and then left.

Dark and dreary skies sit above houses that cannot work and cannot move. The house left his home to find a place of peace and brightness. He didn't want to leave but he left anyway.

Amazing Art Adventure

Imagine you did not have to do any maths and reading. First we got to work on a whare in our own class which we had to put taniwha on. We all had different designed taniwha that made each of our own taniwha unique.

Then we went to the class next to use where we had to draw a boy out off the word boy. To make It you draw the word boy then add a dot In the o and the d, then you add the the top and bottom part of the y to the top and bottom part of the d then you add the nose eyes mouth and eyebrows then colour him or her in. We also made a cat out of the word cat.

We went to our last class Mrs Taylor's class. We all had to make something with 7 different shapes. My one was made very quick and then I went to help people for the rest of the rotation. I loved my amazing art adventure.

Eiffel Tower

This building is called the Eiffel tower. It Is a masterpiece of workmanship. It Is In a place called Paris. There are 20,000 bulbs on the Eiffel tower.

It's a very very big golden steel structure. It has four giant legs which leads up to the skinny but tall top. Its 300 m tall and 300 m long.
